AI is software that finds patterns to produce answers, images, or other results from your instructions. You do not need to code to use an AI assistant. Start here if the terminology feels confusing: you will leave with one small task to try and a way to judge the answer.

Before you start

  • A phone or computer with internet access.
  • One everyday task you would like help with.

How this helps your brand

Build confidence with a small task you can judge yourself before using AI in customer-facing work. Keep a checked example to guide your next project.

  1. Step 1: Learn the four words you will see most

An assistant is the app you talk to. A model is the system generating its answers. A prompt is your instruction. A hallucination is an answer that sounds convincing but is wrong. You can use an assistant without learning how to build a model.

  2. Step 2: Choose a task with an answer you can judge

Try rewriting a short message, organising a shopping list, or turning your own notes into a checklist. Use made-up details for practice. Avoid starting with decisions where an unnoticed error would be expensive or harmful.

  3. Step 3: Tell it what a good result looks like

Write the task, add the relevant facts, and say how you want the result formatted. For a message, name the reader, tone, and maximum length. The assistant cannot know facts about your situation unless you provide them.

  4. Step 4: Treat the first answer as a draft

Compare every name, number, and claim against your original notes. Ask for a shorter version or explain what it misunderstood. A fluent answer is not proof that the answer is true.

  5. Step 5: Save one useful example

Keep your original instruction, the edited result, and one note about what you checked. Next, follow the tool-choice and prompt guides in this beginner path. Repeat a small task before connecting accounts or buying extra tools.

You're done when

  • You can explain a prompt and an AI mistake in your own words.
  • You picked a low-risk first task and know how to check it.

I am completely new to AI. Help me with [small everyday task]. Here are the facts: [made-up or non-sensitive details]. Explain unfamiliar words. Give me a short draft and a checklist of things I should verify. Ask if you need missing information instead of guessing.

Replace the [brackets] with your details. Paste into the AI assistant you use and review the result before sharing it.
