A small local vision model for questions about images, documents, and screens.

  • 4 min read
  • ~8 GB RAM to start
  • 1.5–1.7 GB download

Liquid AI’s compact vision-language model accepts text and images and is intended for focused visual tasks.

Where it works well

  • A small local vision model for questions about images, documents, and screens.
  • Local inference after downloading a supported model and runtime.
  • Works with text prompts and supplied context.

Common use cases

  • Ask a question about a supplied image.
  • Summarize a short passage.
  • Try a focused task and check the answer.

Know its limits

  • Liquid does not recommend this small model for coding, complex reasoning, or long conversations.
  • Video support is described as coming soon; check your runtime before relying on it.
  • The download size is not total running memory; longer context and other apps need additional headroom.

Run it on your computer

Start with a compressed download and a short conversation. Our estimate is about 8 GB of total RAM or Mac unified memory, with room for the operating system. The listed 1.5–1.7 GB download is the model file, not its full running memory use.

Check the model’s supported runtime and hardware before loading it. System RAM on a PC and unified memory on a Mac are different from dedicated NVIDIA VRAM. A memory match doesn’t guarantee compatibility or speed. Choose a smaller model if responses are too slow.

Use a desktop app that supports the listed model format, such as LM Studio or Ollama. Download the exact local variant, load it in Chat, and start with one small task. Model downloads need internet; local chat can work offline once the model is downloaded.
