How this helps your brand

Reuse a tested process for work such as weekly summaries instead of rewriting instructions each time. Give your team a consistent starting point.

  1. Step 1: Choose a procedure that already works

Use a task with a stable input and output, such as turning weekly sales notes into a summary. Write down required sections, checks, and what to do when information is missing.

  2. Step 2: Teach the procedure

Use /learn followed by your written procedure, documentation URL, or a description of the workflow you just completed. Ask for a narrowly scoped skill with a clear name and trigger.

  3. Step 3: Inspect the saved instructions

Review the resulting skill before relying on it. Hermes stores skills under ~/.hermes/skills/ by default. Confirm the instructions describe your process without embedding sample secrets or unnecessary actions.

Skills supply reusable instructions; tools and account connections still determine what Hermes can actually do.

  4. Step 4: Test with a different input

Start a fresh task using the second sample. Check that the skill follows the procedure rather than copying the first sample’s facts. Refine the instructions and repeat the check when it misses a requirement.

You're done when

  • The saved skill describes the intended procedure.
  • A second sample produces the correct structure and facts.
