Use Grok’s consumer voice mode for a short spoken practice session, then check whether it understood your point. This walkthrough is for Grok at grok.com or in the official Grok app; the separate Grok Bot app has its own voice controls.

Before you start
- A signed-in consumer Grok account with voice mode available in the website or official mobile app.
- A working microphone and speakers or headphones, with permission for Grok to use the microphone when requested.
- A quiet place and one topic to practise, such as a 30-second introduction to your business. Use made-up customer details for the exercise.

Skills you’ll need: Use microphone controls, describe a short speaking exercise, and check the meaning of the feedback yourself.

How this helps your brand
Practising a short introduction helps you explain your offer clearly in conversation. Checking the recap against your own facts keeps the speaking advice tied to what your business actually does.
Step 1: Choose a small speaking task
Pick one outcome you can judge in a few minutes. For example, explain what your café offers to someone who has never visited, then answer two follow-up questions.
Write down three facts you want to communicate before starting: what you offer, who it is for and what someone should do next. Those notes give you a way to judge the conversation afterwards.
Illustrated exampleGive your introduction three facts to hold on toYour three anchorsKeep the introduction short enough to check.- 01What you offerSmall-batch morning coffee
- 02Who it is forPeople heading to work nearby
- 03What to do nextStop in before 10 a.m.
“We make small-batch morning coffee for people heading to work nearby. Stop in before 10 a.m. to try today’s roast.”
These example notes create a short introduction and a simple check for the recap. Replace them with details you can safely practise. - 01
Step 2: Start voice mode and test a single sentence
Open Grok and switch to its voice mode using the voice option in your current interface. Allow microphone access if prompted. This is a spoken conversation: you should hear a reply, rather than only see your speech entered into a text box.
Say: please repeat the phrase morning coffee, then ask me what I want to practise. Wait for the response before giving the full task. This checks that Grok can hear you and that you can hear it.
If there is no response, check microphone permission, input device and speaker volume, then try the same short sentence again. If your speech only becomes typed text, return to the mode controls and look for the conversational voice option.
Step 3: Give the exercise and take turns
Read the filled-in prompt below aloud. Ask for one question at a time and brief replies, so the session stays manageable.
Give your introduction without trying to make it perfect. After Grok replies, answer the question it asked. Keep the same task for two or three turns so you can tell whether the follow-ups fit what you actually said.
Tip: If it misunderstands a name or number, correct that specific detail: I said twelve seats, not twenty. Ask it to repeat the correction before continuing.
Illustrated exampleTake one turn at a time and repair a misheard detailTwo turns, one correctionExample practice · 01:20- YOU
We have twelve seats at the window counter.
- GROK
Did you say twenty seats?
- YOU · CORRECT
I said twelve, not twenty. Please repeat that back.
- GROK · CONFIRM
Got it: twelve seats at the window counter. What should a first-time guest try?
Pause for each reply. Correct one detail, hear it repeated, then continue.
A voice exchange is easier to follow when Grok asks one question at a time. Correct a specific mistake and ask it to repeat the corrected fact. - YOU
Step 4: Check the meaning before accepting feedback
Ask Grok to repeat the main points it heard, then compare them with your three notes. Correct missing or invented details before asking for writing or presentation advice.
If answers become too long, ask for one question and no more than two sentences per reply. If the connection repeatedly drops or Grok cannot hear you clearly, stop the attempt and continue the exercise in text rather than judging your speaking from an incomplete exchange.
If an account limit appears, read its reset or access information. Check Settings, then Usage for the account allowance; a voice conversation does not come with unlimited usage.

Grok’s recap
- Matches Small-batch coffee
- Matches Nearby commuters
- Check “Before lunch”
Fix the time first: “It’s before 10 a.m., not before lunch.” Then ask for one clear point and one sentence to improve.
Compare its recap with your original notes. Correct a missing or changed fact before asking for a suggested sentence. Step 5: Finish with one improvement to practise
Ask for one thing that was clear and one sentence to improve. Check that the suggested sentence uses your real facts. Say the improved version once more, then end the voice session using its end control.
Write down the useful wording yourself so you can practise it later. Your completion check is a clearer introduction that you can deliver and verify, not simply that the assistant sounded confident.
You're done when
- You and Grok have exchanged audible replies over at least two turns.
- Grok’s recap matches the three facts you intended to communicate, after any corrections.
- You have practised one improved sentence, recorded it in your notes and ended the session.

COPY AND PASTE
Help me practise [a short business introduction or another speaking task]. My audience is [who I am speaking to]. The facts to preserve are [three facts]. Let me give my introduction first. Then ask one relevant follow-up question at a time. Keep your replies to two sentences. If a name or number is unclear, ask me to repeat it. After two questions, recap what you heard so I can correct it. Then give me one clear point and one sentence to improve, using only my facts.
Fill in the brackets before starting. Read this aloud after opening conversational voice mode in consumer Grok, or use it as your exercise notes. Do not paste it into a developer voice API or assume Grok Bot uses the same controls.
